Double: A Buying Guide to Single and Double
Ovens
Whether you have a large family, entertain
frequently or want to cook meals in a fraction
of the time, a
wall oven may be the perfect solution for you.
These units have been around since the middle of
the last century, but it is only recently that
technology has merged with convenience to create
wall ovens that are highly functional, fast and
easy to use. However, these great strides have
also created options for the consumer that can
be difficult to navigate through. We have the
information you need about single and double
ovens to make the best choice for your family.
When Size Matters
Wall units are available in three different
widths; 24", 27" and 30". While the 30" model is
the most popular, you will want to find the unit
that will fit into your allotted space. Keep in
mind that along with size, a variety of oven
rack positions will also give you versatility in
your cooking. Six to seven positions is a good
amount to look for in order to get the best
function from your oven. Height will vary based
on whether the model is a single or double oven.
Half of all the wall ovens sold are double oven
models because this offers the greatest
capabilities in cooking a large meal.
Cooking, Convenience and Capabilities
Wall ovens today offer many great features that
will aid in the convenience and speed of your
cooking.
To bake up your best batch of chocolate chip
cookies, look for a large multi-loop baking
element. This feature will allow heat to be
released evenly. Another popular type of oven is
the convection oven, which uses a fan to
circulate heat evenly around food. It may
include a top and bottom heating element, and
some European models will even add a third
element in the back of the oven. These
convection ovens cook food much more quickly,
meaning that you can shave off about 25% of the
time it will take you to prepare Grandma's
favourite Sunday roast.
Another convenient feature that will aid in your
cooking task is electronic touch controls that
will provide more accurate temperature settings.
A window and an oven light will help you to keep
track of what's cooking and a high-low broil
option will give you even more versatility.
Clean up is a consideration as well, since no
one likes to spend a significant amount of time
peering into an oven cavity with rubber gloves
and a brillo pad. Check out the ease of a hidden
bake element that will catch spills and residue
that the self cleaning cycle might leave behind.
Catalytic linings will absorb grease and stains
and then burn them off when the oven reaches the
right temperature. Pyrolytic cleaning is the
most convenient, hands-off way to keep your oven
sparkling, which entails turning your oven to
the clean cycle and then wiping up the ash when
the cycle is over.
Convenience, cleanliness and cooking ability;
the things that great ovens are made of. Whether
you go for the single oven, a double traditional
model, or a double with a conventional bottom
and a convectional top, you can find the wall
unit that will best meet your family's needs. |
